Their bill requires that each semester, teachers post a clear, written AI usage policy explaining when AI is allowed on assignments and when it isn't. It also addresses a real fairness gap in how AI-detection tools get used: if an AI detector flags a student's paper for potential AI use, the bill requires teachers to personally investigate the issue before reporting the student to administration, rather than treating an automated flag as proof.

This isn't just a feel-good youth civics story. The specific provisions these teens wrote — a mandatory written policy every semester, and human investigation before any AI-detection accusation moves forward — are exactly the kind of concrete safeguards many real school districts still don't have in writing. If 98 teenagers over one weekend could identify and draft rules for two of the most common sources of AI confusion and unfairness in schools, that's a useful benchmark for what a real district policy should include.
